I was encouraged to research Arthur Rackham when I discovered that the French Composer Claude Debussy admired the Illustrator, along with his admiration for the painters J.M.W.Turner and Whistler.
Rackham plates belong to the 19th Century period when they highlighted episodes in books. They were protected by ‘see-through’ soft paper, adding to their importance.
The advent of softcover and paperbacks saw an end to this practice, more’s the pity as far as I am concerned.

    • So much better in real life, hey. I would love to have the money to travel and see all the lovely art works I so admire. Thanks for the comment.
